Hepworth Gallery

I must admit, after trekking through Yorkshire Sculpture Park for hours on end to try and see as much as possible and encountering such impressive works, the Hepworth Gallery for me just didn’t have the same excitement to it. I don’t know much about curating, but it all seemed very mismatched and  thrown together; miscellaneous almost.  There was only a few simple pieces that intrigued me due to the artist, including Pablo Picasso’s ‘Female Nude with Arms Raised’ 1970, and Martin Parr’s few images from his ‘New Brighton, Merseyside’ 1952 collection.

The actual work by Barbara Hepworth herself was very limited and repeated, with only a few little interesting aspects. A few small pottery pieces and sketches set a basis for her skill and style.

The ‘School Prints’ exhibition had some qualities that took my concentration for a while, due to the themes in them that would now be addressed immediately and not allowed to be published to young children. The reoccurring theme was a circus style that portrayed a creativity and enthusiastic side to the gallery, but then only led way to the deeper issues involved.
