Thursday 22nd August
Today I filtered through submissions for the Zine and Phonebook Fair, and was asked to pick 3 and document why in order for Sorcha to have a second opinion before committing to the final options; ‘Necrosis’, ‘The Bag’, and ‘Oil Sands’ particularly stood out to me. ‘Oil Sands’ by Chloe Juno, was a truly beautiful documentation of the horrendous oil spills across golden, sandy beaches. They were a whirlwind of colour and form disguised in a disastrous situation.
I had an opportunity to talk to a few local photographers, who are using Open Eye’s technical platform, OpenSource, to show their work, whilst they downloaded and trialed their footage (Fionn Gunn’s ‘Odyssey Exploration’ August 25th). I also fixed the A- Boards for outside which had become smudged, in order for the events and information on them to be legible.
As usual I drafted a few social media posts, replied to emails, and had some transactions for the independent bookstore which made me more confident on the software. I have also asked about the archive, so those wheels are in motion.
