Volunteering at the Open Eye Gallery, Liverpool

Thursday 29th August

Today was a quiet day, of which I spent most of it preparing for the Zine and Phonebook Fair. I was given the job of looking through the independent book shop stock on the system for the stock which was either unsold or sold poorly the previous year in order to apply a discount, for them to be sold at the Fair. I had to search the checkout code within the ‘stockroom’, record each price and calculate the 20% (only applying it if it was still more than purchase price). In doing so I came across some missing default costs and expired films which need removing/discounting further.

To give myself a break from the extensive spreadsheet work (which I do actually enjoy), I had a long and lovely chat to a visitor, with whom I discussed recent exhibitions we’d visited and enjoyed. One reoccurring exhibition was Keith Haring in Tate Liverpool which I have visited several times so far.

I certainly feel more advanced in the technological side of things, and have plenty of responsibility which makes me feel like I come across as reliable and positive in the face of new jobs that may be out of my comfort zone.
