Laura Yuile’s conversation piece

Today we were visited by the bizarre but interesting Laura Yuile to find out more about her practises and exhibitions. She is an artist of sculpture, video and performance and often includes herself within her exhibit through the form of question and answer sessions and conversation pieces.

Most of her physical creations are a battle of the manmade and natural, questioning the invisible boundaries that shape our lives and forcing the viewer to acknowledge the transience of their life. She admitted that she does this to portray a fetish over displacement and the idea of moments more, to make the viewer uncomfortable and discuss the work.

One of her most known (and possibly best) exhibitions was “Conversation of Monuments’; the use of household objects, similar to Duchamp, that would be found in the day to day, mixed with natural techniques. For instance, covering them in pebbles and involving wiring and various pieces of debris alongside  human-like figure. Using a human within the artwork involves the viewer directly and immediately, creating a possibly relatable setting.

Within her instagram account, she refers to herself as a FLEXIMALIST. What this means, I don’t know but I enjoyed her confidence in communicating her ideas, artworks, and herself.

“Artworks, fish tanks, little waterfalls, fountains, flowers, wind chimes, mirrors, little ponds – all these things change the energy of a room depending where you put them”
