Volunteering at the Open Eye Gallery, Liverpool

Thursday 5th September

Had an unusual day paired with another volunteer, who turns out goes to my old high school, so we had plenty to talk about and used the shift to discuss career options, volunteering, future plans, artworks etc. With kids back at school the gallery was quiet, but this was really a blessing in disguise as we had to spend the whole day rushing and setting up for the Sine and Phonebook Fair (Saturday 7th). I added products, prices and quantities to the stockroom system, with a note PBF so they were easily identifiable, and then later made labels for the physical products.

I found out, from briefly discussing with Natalie, that the archive has a full pdf version which I would be granted access to if I wanted it, and if from that I wanted to see the physical version I would be able to search the archive and handle the work. It’s reassuring that everything the staff do for me, a volunteer, is for my own benefit; even on busy days I get given jobs that improve my credibility in the roll with no pressure but for self-reflection.
