Volunteering at the Open Eye Gallery, Liverpool

Thursday 12th September

I spent the day during usual jobs, adding new stock to the system and drafting social media posts until I was able to access the pdf archive. From opening in 1977, there is now a collection of around 1700 images, including work for Samantha Brown, Yan Preston, and Derek Man. The majority of the archive is  male dominated and the works are mostly black and white.

The experience I’ve gained on the front desk as a whole has given me new skills in software and some new knowledge on the inner workings of a gallery. I have enjoyed my time here but hope now to gain some more hands on experience; either in conservation or a practical job role.

This was a lovely end to my consistent weekly shifts; I return to university next week and cannot yet guarantee my time, but I have already signed up to assist at an exhibition opening evening in a few weeks time.
